Apple Butter - Microwave

Back to From the Garden

Back to Apples

Obviously, this works best with smaller quantities of apples.  This is a great no fat replacement for butter or margarine on toast, bagels, muffins, pancakes or crackers.  No sugar added, either.  It can also be prepared with pears instead of apples, or a combination of the two fruits.

Ingredients:

4 nedium apples, peeled and cored
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Procedure:

Chop apples into a microwave bowl, add spices and cover with plastic wrap.  Microwave on high for 12 minutes,   Nash with a potato masher and microwave another 12 to 14 minutes, uncovered this time.  It is done when it is thick enough to spread without being 'runny'/  Serve warm or cold, store in a covered container in the refrigerator.
