Apple Crunch

You can make this with fresh apples or you can use a package of frozen apple pie filling from your freezer.  Kind of like an apple crisp.

Apple Pie Filling for the freezer

Ingredients:

1 package of frozen apple pie filling, from the freezer OR
About 6 cups of peeled, cored and sliced apples
     1 cup sugar
      1 tsp ground cinnamon
       2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
Topping
3/4 cup rolled oats, uncooked
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup melted butter or margarine
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Procedure:

Spray a deep dish pie pan with non stick baking spray and preheat oven to 375 F.  If using fresh apples, any ovenproof casserole type pan will work also.  For frozen apple pie filling, proceed to topping preparation.  Combine sugar, cinnamon  and flour and sprinkle evenly over apple slices in pan.
     Topping
In a small bowl, combine topping ingredients and mix well.  Spread evenly over top of apples in baking pan and bake about 40 minutes.  Check for doneness by piercing an apple slice with the tip of a knife, if the apple slice is soft and tender, it is done.  Allow to cool before serving.
